The blogging community has provided me with the support I needed to feel confident in my role as a working parent, to stay healthy and fit, to find delicious recipes for my family, ideas to help make my house feel more like a home, and products that have made "adulting" easier or more manageable. For me, the phrase, "It takes a village" doesn't just pertain to my close family or friends. I believe my village has also been the amazing men and women who have created blogs to provide helpful tips and tricks to support one another. I myself love learning about many different topics of interest since I wear many hats, therefore, my idea of a blog is not a one topic blog. I believe my experience as a working parent, an avid outdoors woman, an educator, and someone who maintains a healthy level of fitness can be helpful to other people wearing similar hats, seeking ideas and support.
I was raised in Montana and grew up camping and fly fishing with my family. I married the love of my life after college and planted roots where he grew up. We have two kids and a dog. We love our life here in Montana and spend all our non-working/non-sport weekends enjoying the mountains, rivers, and lakes.
I was a teacher for 11 years and a working parent for 8 of them.
I taught 2nd grade, 5th grade, and was a math and literacy instructional coach for two years. I loved teaching, especially the kids, but I felt like I was focusing so much time and energy on my teaching career, and not as much on my own family. I'll be the first to admit that teaching was challenging, but that wasn't the main reason for taking time off. I took a leave of absence to be more present for my family and to have more flexibility.
I'm now volunteering in my kids classrooms each week, I get to take them to school, enjoy all the fun events that I was never able to go to. I feel happier and healthier now that I don't have to leave early in the morning to get in a workout before work and can play with my kids before the busy day begins. I focus more on being present in the moment than always trying to get the next thing on my to-do list accomplished. I know taking a break from a career is not in the cards for many people, especially with the cost of everything these days, but for me, it was something I needed to do for myself and my family.
In the meantime, I enjoy sharing the tips and tricks I've learned while trying to juggle parenting and working, some fun educational resources, staying healthy/fit, and my favorite products for the great outdoors. Make sure to subscribe to my blog so you don't miss out!
